Today is August 15th, and in Italy, it is a widely celebrated day, signifying the summer holidays. Years ago when I first arrived in Italy on my sabbatical, everyone was talking about 'Ferragosto.' I kept asking what it was, but never got a clear answer as to what we were celebrating. So I took it upon myself to discover that the original source of Ferragosto's origins trace back to ancient Rome, where Emperor Augustus established the "Feriae Augusti" meaning 'Augustus' rest,' and was established by the Roman Emperor Augustus in 18 BC on the 1st of August as a period of rest after the summer harvest. As the festivity was created for political reasons, the Catholic Church decided to move the festivity to the 15th of August. Over time, it became associated with the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, where her mind, body, and soul ascended to heaven. What I think I love most about this day, is that Italians embrace it so much, that 90% of businesses shut down for at least two weeks to take a much needed break. This seems like such a foreign concept, but after living here for a few years, I have come to love the underlying meaning of this holiday. So on this day, I just wanted to invite you to take a moment to pause. Check in with your mind, and let it unwind. Let your body rest and restore so your soul can continue its purpose in this life. We all need some time to take a break and check in with ourselves. We were not designed to work nonstop, so take some advice from this American wannabe Italian- slow down, get into nature, hang out with friends and family, eat, drink, and dance. And if you need something to wear for all the end of summer festivities, check out The God|dess Collection, designed with your highest and best in mind. The Enchanting Cardigan is my favorite piece during the summer as it is lightweight, see through, perfect for the sea, boat, or pool parties, and takes up little to no space in your suitcase. Get yours now before summer runs out...
