After I turned 40, I thought I was going to die. I was diagnosed with streptococcus pneumonia and was in the hospital for five days. I was a social smoker, but after having to use a breathalyzing treatment for a month to rebuild my lungs, I thought, 'maybe I don't need to smoke anymore.' So I came up with THE SUBSTITUTE, my cure to cancer, and since my husband died of cancer ten years prior, it made sense. After he passed, I was named the Woman of the Year for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) by raising over $100,000 through my store, The Art of Style, for over a decade, before it was destroyed in the riots in 2020.
