How to change your mind...
it takes a lot of practice.
You have to be aware.
The first step in any situation is having the awareness that it is happening. Then you have to want to make a change. That means you have to make changes in your life. That means taking appropriate action. That may mean removing certain people from your life. That means having healthy boundaries. That means you need to make a plan and execute it. Then congratulate yourself when you've taken a step in the right direction and keep going!
You have to catch yourself.
Once you're aware and want to make a change, you have to constantly catch yourself when you start falling back into negative patterns. Literally saying 'STOP' to your mind can help. It is almost like a reflex, we can't help it. It is how we were raised, these are our patterns that have been passed down for generations. The good news is that when you start exposing this part of yourself, you can see the growth, and change what you were going to say/do. Lastly, give yourself grace during the process. Change is hard and it takes a lot of work. But it's worth it.
You have to retrain the brain.
Just like our bodies have muscle memory, our brains do too. You can actually rewire the brain to think positive thoughts, think consciously, and think differently. Meditation is a practice that connects the mind with the body. Sitting in silence and allowing your thoughts to pass over you like clouds in the sky for a minute a day can help. Listening to guided meditations before going to sleep and after you wake up for 21 days can form new neural pathways to your brain. Don't believe me? Try it and see the difference it makes. We must reprogram ourselves.
