Just breathe.

Just breathe.

It's the only thing you need...

That's what I keep telling myself.
 
Whenever I am in a situation that starts to trigger a stress response, I try to remember to take a deep breath. When I can't sleep and my brain is spinning (like last night after the fire alarm went off at 3am), I took three long inhales and exhales and that was almost like a reset. And then my mind went left and right and all around, so I put on a guided sleep meditation and let my subconscious soak it in as I drifted off to sleep. Science indicates that reprogramming the subconscious mind while sleeping is indeed possible. In fact, your brain is prepared to download information twice a day and this is where you can reprogram the subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is most active right when you wake up. This is why I also meditate in 15 minutes of silence as soon as I wake up every day. You can train your brain to use this subconscious activity to think positively and accomplish more throughout your day. Don't believe me? Try it and prove me wrong. I dare you.
 
The Substitute
 
Need some help taking those long deep inhales and exhales? Consider trying The Substitute. It allows you to suck in a considerable amount of air to fill up your lungs, all you have to do is blow it all out. By releasing all the bad stuff that was once inside (instead of holding it all in and creating dis-ease and/or pain), you can actually feel yourself becoming lighter. And, if you are a smoker, flirt with the idea of using this instead. If you actually want to quit, this could help. And even if you don't want to quit, ponder over the concept that you can smoke this anywhere. It's simply air.
