Take things slow...

Take things slow...

and boost your physical, mental, and emotional health.

Physical health

I always said that clothing was a good motivation to stay healthy. (And you know how I feel about my clothes). Taking care of your body should be high up there on your list of priorities, as it is the only body you will have in this entire lifetime. Pay attention to what it is telling you (did I eat too much, drink too much, smoke too much, etc?). We should all make the time to celebrate our bodies and thank our little toes for getting us around. Cherish your body, speak nicely to it, and treat it as such. Just keep moving and try not to think about the calories or the details. Enjoy the food you eat and pay attention to your emotions while you are eating. If you are stressed during the process, that will effect how you digest it. If you are happy, laughing and being present with friends or family, your body will process the food a different way. Take a walk, do some stretching, dance like no one is watching. When you start to make your physical health a priority in your life, you will start to see the mental and emotional follow suit...

Mental Health

Your mental health should also be your top priority, as thinking makes it so. If you are constantly living in a state of fear or anxiety, or running through the script of negative self talk, STOP NOW. Literally tell your brain to stop. You may have to do this several times before you get out of your negative thought loop, but you do have the power to control how long you allow your mind to run you down the rabbit hole. Come back to the present moment, and just breathe. When you find yourself spinning, the only way to stop is to sit still. This is where meditation comes in. Of course it is hard (much like anything else when you first try it), but I promise, practice makes perfect. Well, perfection meaning going with the flow. How you react to things is a clear sign as to how much you control your mind. Don't let it control you. And don't let anyone or anything- i.e. social media dictate how you should think.

Emotional health

When your body and your brain are at optimal health, you'll notice how your emotional state is more balanced, too. These three things are connected, but you first have to get into the body to heal so you can feel, and clear the clutter from the monkey mind so you can actually think clearly through the everyday bullshit. Then, you can really start getting a handle on your emotions- which ones are yours and which ones are from others? Practicing boundaries (also silence) helps keep your emotional health in check. Pay attention to what comes up and let the emotions flow out of you. Bottling them up only leads to an explosion of some sort later, and that never ends well. This is when we have adult temper tantrums cause we've been triggered by something in our past. The present moment is all we ever have, so use these opportunities to learn from the past, so it does not hinder your future.
